Efficient Paint Stripper for Iron

The Challenge

A leading industrial coating company needed to strip paint from a large quantity of iron hooks coated with multiple layers of paint. These hooks are used in a painting tunnel to hang various parts for coating.

During this process, the hooks pass through the tunnel multiple times, accumulating several layers of paint on their surface. Therefore, it’s necessary to periodically remove all the paint layers from the hooks to restore them to their original state. For the stripping process, the customer has a tank equipped with heating and a low-head hydrokinetic pump.

Our Solution

The customer required a professional paint stripper for iron, free of chlorinated solvents, that would detach the paint layers without dissolving them. This is crucial for managing the stripping process, as it reduces the consumption of paint stripper and allows for less frequent disposal of spent solutions, resulting in cost savings and greater environmental protection.

When the hooks are immersed in the tank and subjected to the action of the chemical stripper, the paint layers accumulated on their surface become inert. Due to the movement of the solution generated by the hydrokinetic pump, the paint layers tend to lift and detach from the surface, precipitating to the bottom of the tank without dissolving in the solution.

Results

After conducting a series of tests with some of our professional paint strippers, we identified a product called BIKESTRIP that fully meets the purpose.

BIKESTRIP is free of chlorinated solvents and acidic substances.

It is used as is at temperatures between 50 and 80°C (122 and 176°F), depending on the types of paints to be removed; the contact time also depends on this factor. After this process, the hooks are perfectly stripped.
